The Society of Nepalese Engineers in UK (SONEUK) has successfully conducted a one-day training session on Project Planning which attracted an active participation of more than 70 engineers and managers not only from within the UK but also from Australia, Netherlands, Denmark etc. The training programme titled “AnIntroduction to Project Planning – A Practical Approach” aimed at providing basic knowledge of the elements that are considered in planning a project and providing a hands-on practice using a tool such as ASTA Powerproject to plan, schedule and control a project. The training was divided in 4 sessions – Presentation, Practice, Assessment and Q/A sessions.
One of the senior SONEUK members, Mr Rudra Koirala has presented theoretical background and he also delivered the hands-on practice session as a training resource person. The training was organised based on high demand shown by SONEUK members through an online survey carried out on its Facebook survey. This was a first ever training organised in an online video conferencing platform Zoom, by the SONEUK. Opening the event, SONEUK General Secretary Dr Bidur Ghimire introduced the participants with the training programme, its objectives and usefulness especially for early career fellow engineers. Similarly, SONEUK Vice-Chairperson Mr Narad Bhandari welcomed all the participants and he also emphasized to get the most out of it and benefitted from the training because of the wider applicability of such project management tool in the engineering and management field.
The training sessions were coordinated by SONEUK Executive Committee member Mr Hari Nepal, on behalf of Training and CPD sub-committee, SONEUK. Providing a brief introduction of the resource person, Mr Nepal emphasized it was an excellent opportunity to learn about the project planning and scheduling, and a new software tool such as ASTA Powerproject first-hand from the very experienced trainer. During practice and the Q&A sessions, participants were actively engaged in learning and strengthening their knowledge. All the participants including very senior members of the society admired the content and the delivery of the training and also emphasized that it was very relevant and insightful. Event received very positive feedback from all the participants.
The event was concluded with a vote of thanks from SONEUK Chairperson Mr Sanyukta Shrestha. He also assured offering similar events in future, as part of SONEUK’s regular activities.
